CLI API

CLI & Game API

These endpoints power the official Anagrama CLI. They handle user authentication via browser login and gameplay actions like fetching puzzles, submitting guesses, requesting hints, and revealing answers. This documentation is a reference for understanding how the CLI works under the hood.

The CLI API is used exclusively by the official Anagrama CLI. It requires a user to log in via their browser (Device Code Flow) and acts on behalf of that user's account. It is not intended for third-party applications.

CLI API vs. Word API — which one do you need?

Building a bot, integration, or app? Use the Word API (/api/v1/words/*). It gives you read-only access to random words, the daily word, and custom wordsets with a simple ak_ API key.

Contributing to the Anagrama CLI? The CLI API (/anagrama/api/* + /cli/auth/*) is documented here for reference. It uses a cli_ token obtained through the Device Code Flow, where the user approves access via their browser.

For building bots, tools, and integrations, use the Word API with a simple API key. Check out the Example Projects for inspiration.
